Orange High School, NSW asks kids to stay at home because of Covid outbreak

A large state school in New South Wales has asked children to study from home after a Covid-19 outbreak impacted staffing levels.

Orange High School announced learning from home will take place for students in Year 7 through to Year 10 this week.

The announcement impacts one grade each day, but year 11 and year 12 students will be exempt from the guideline.

‘Due to the impact of COVID-19 some of our students and teaching staff cannot attend school,’ Orange High School principal Ali McLennan wrote in a note to parents.

‘The positive COVID-19 cases have particularly impacted our staff.’

‘Students who cannot learn from home will be provided supervision should they attend school,’ Ms McLennan added.

Year 11 and Year 12 students will still attend school as usual, the note from Ms McLennan said.

Orange High School has more than 1,000 students.

Orange State High School’s stay at home guidelines:

Year 10 – Tuesday, May 16 (one day only)

Year 9 – Wednesday May 17 (one day only)

Year 8 – Thursday May 18 (one day only)

Year 7 – Friday May 19 (one day only)

More to come.
