Shocking moment woman rips entire plant out of neighbour’s front garden ground and walks off with it

This is the shocking moment a woman decided to rip a large plant out of her neighbour’s front garden and steal it – roots and all.

Posting to the social media forum Reddit, a disgruntled plant owner in Brazil shared CCTV footage of a neighbour stealing a flowering shrub outside their house.

Shared on the subreddit ‘mildlyinfuriating’, user @jhoujhou96 wrote: ‘She could have just asked, and we’d happily give her a stem cutting!’

In the video, the camera is pointed at the walkway in front of the plant owner’s property and captures the whole scene.

A woman dressed in grey jogging bottoms and a matching T-shirt surreptitiously walks up to the pretty pink flower and looks around to make sure no one is looking.

She then brazenly bends down and pulls up the quite large plant, shaking off the excess soil and quickly walking out of view.

Underneath the video, the user gave some information on the situation, writing: ‘This was not the first time this happened but finally caught it on camera.

‘It had been growing indoors in a vase for two years, as we were afraid this would happen again, but it was getting root-bound so we moved it to our driveway 2 weeks ago.

‘Then come this morning and this happens… This was in South Brazil.’

The post, which has been upvoted over 75,000 times, has attracted a lot of attention from other people.

Flooding the comments section, many couldn’t believe people could be so deplorable.

One person wrote: ‘In Puerto Rico my grandfather used to put chains and barbed wire on newly planted palms and other plants because people would steal them.’

A second shocked follower asked: ‘WTF is wrong with people? Constantly disappointed at the depths humanity will stoop to.’

‘I didn’t expect her to just take the whole plant.. wtf lol….,’ a third person stated.

‘If I saw a plant I loved, I would try to find the name of the plant and get my goddamn own,’ added another Reddit user.

And someone else penned: ‘I’ve had a few people knock on my door and ask for cuttings.

‘It always leaves me feeling happy that someone likes my plants enough to ask for a piece.’

A fifth shared their own plant-thieving story, writing: ‘Years ago I had someone cut every flower in my garden to use for a wedding. Had to get the police involved.

‘Another time, maybe 12 or 13 knocked on my door and offered me a crumpled dollar bill for one of my roses. It was for his mom’s birthday. I told him to keep his money, went inside and got a vase and we cut her roses, lillies, and snapdragons for a nice bouquet.

‘Us gardeners are more generous than we get credit for. Just ask.’

Later in the comments, the original poster gave an update on the situation revealing the plant thief had been identified.

They wrote: ‘We managed to get this broadcast on our local news channel today. The family members of this individual managed to recognise the person and contacted us.

‘They are speaking to the person and trying to get it back.’

The owner of the plant and footage received lots of replies and later gave an update on what had happened since the theft
