Gwyneth Paltrow’s ski collision trial set to be turned into Discovery+ documentary

For those who couldn’t get enough of Gwyneth Paltrow’s ski trial earlier this year, a new documentary all about the sensational lawsuit is now in the works.

Discovery+ will be releasing Gwyneth vs Terry: The Ski Crash Trial, a documentary that will explore the Goop founder’s viral legal battle against retired optometrist Terry Sanderson, according to Variety.

Optomen, the production company behind Johnny vs Amber and Kim vs Kanye: The Divorce, will be working on the project.

The documentary will roll out in two parts later in 2023.

Sanderson accused Gwyneth, 50, of colliding into him during a 2016 ski crash in Utah, an incident which he claims left him with lasting brain damage.

But Paltrow ultimately prevailed, with jurors finding Sanderson, 76, ‘100 per cent’ to blame for the crash at the upmarket Utah ski resort seven years ago. It took just two hours and 20 minutes for the jury to reach their verdict.

Ms Paltrow, the 50-year-old founder of the luxury wellness brand Goop, is worth $200million (£161million) and won an Oscar for her role in Shakespeare in Love.

Her adversary, Mr Sanderson, 76, is a twice-divorced retired optometrist from Utah, whose net worth is unknown.

The verdict meant Sanderson must hand Ms Paltrow a symbolic $1 in damages – but also must pay his and Gwyneth’s legal costs, which could run into hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The decision came after eight days of live-streamed courtroom testimony that drew worldwide audiences and became a pop culture fixation.

During the trial, Gwyneth went viral after describing how she ‘lost ‘half a day of skiing’ after the collision.

Paltrow’s attorney read a statement from the actress outside court after the verdict was delivered.

Stephen Owens, representing the actress, said: ‘We’re pleased with the outcome and appreciate the judge and jury’s consideration.

‘Gwyneth has a history of standing up for what’s right and this situation is no different. She will continue to stand up for what’s right.’

A statement was released by her representatives.

‘I felt that acquiescing to a false claim compromised my integrity,’ Paltrow said.

‘I am pleased with the outcome and I appreciate all of the hard work of Judge Holmberg and the jury, and thank them for their thoughtfulness in handling this case.’

Gwyneth’s trial isn’t the only controversy to be the subject of the ‘Vs’ series.

The drama surrounding the Nicola Peltz and Brooklyn Beckham wedding will also be scrutinized in Peltz-Beckham vs The Wedding Planners, according to Variety.

Another legal battle: A 'Vs' documentary will also look into the lawsuit filed by Nicola Peltz's billionaire father Nelson Peltz against the ex wedding planners working on Nicola and Brooklyn Beckham's wedding

The documentary will look into the lawsuit filed by Nicola’s billionaire father Nelson Peltz against their ex wedding planners.

Peltz sued planners Nicole Braghin and Arianna Grijalba in December, claiming they botched preparation for the $3.5 million, 500-guest nuptials and refused to refund his $159,000 deposit when he fired them after just eight days.

The women hit back with a 188-page counterclaim against Nelson, his wife and daughter, calling him a ‘bully billionaire’, dishing details of the event plans – including an alleged $100,000 hair and make-up bill – and exposing hundreds of text messages that showed Nicola firing off orders and criticizing their design suggestions.
