The rich and famous go through ups and downs, much like the rest of us. And Jenson Button’s wife, Brittny, proved just that when she took to Instagram to bemoan that her luxurious Hermes Birkin bag had been ‘scratched’.
The model, 33, who lives with the racing driver in California, has blasted British Airways amid claims their business class seats were ‘inoperable’, causing ‘mega damage’ to her pricey Birkin bag.
Sharing a snapshot of another handbag, currently on sale for almost $23,000, Brittny said that her purse’s value had plummeted since the incident and she was ‘pretty p***ed’ about it.
The mother-of-two, who owns interior design studio Stone & Button Design, posted about the ordeal on her Instagram stories, writing: ‘@British_Airways your inoperable business class seat smashed/scratched my Birkin and caused mega damage causing the value to plummet it!’

Brittny, pictured here with her racing driver husband Jenson Button, shared a snapshot of the bag’s retail price on her Instagram stories, and said she was ‘pretty p**sed’ about the incident
She added: ‘Looking at prices now I’m pretty p**sed. Shouldn’t there be insurance for this?’
Brittny owns a brown Hermes Birkin 25 leather satchel bag, which according to various sources retails for a minimum of $26,000.
The uber opulent bag is a timeless favourite, and the likes of Victoria Beckham, Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner have been spotted sporting the handbag on various occasions.Â
It is one of the most coveted bags in the world, due to limited availability and am elite client list.
It appears Brittny has a slew of Hermes bags, as she’s often seen toting them around on her Instagram account.
It’s not known which flight she was on when the incident occurred, but based on the fact that she lives primarily in California and she is now in the UK – she and her husband were spotted attending the Goodwood Festival of Speed in West Sussex, England, today – it was likely that she was flying from Los Angeles to London.Â
British Airways’ website boasts about its Business Class seats being ‘spacious,’ explaining that they can ‘convert into a fully flat six-foot bed.’ They also come with ‘fully adjustable headrests’ and ‘lumbar support.’
Birkin bags are said to be a better investment than stocks and shares – for unlike a new car or piece of jewellery, they appreciate in value the moment you buy them.

However, shoppers must be ‘offered’ the chance to purchase a Birkin or a Kelly — and to get that offer, they must not only shop at Hermès frequently, but develop a relationship with a specific sales associate.
While a celebrity may get to skirt the rules, regular people — even the rich ones — need to build up a relationship at their local boutique before bagging a Birkin.
A Birkin bag bought directly from the store starts at $9,000 and can sell for $30,000 according to Sotheby’s guide, with limited editions fetching even more.Â
Last year, a 2021 Himalayan Birkin 30 with diamonds sold at Sotheby’s for $450,000.
Legend has it that the Birkin was born when the eponymous Jane Birkin, actress love of Je t’aime singer Serge Gainsbourg, was seated next to Hermes CEO Jean-Louis Dumas on a flight.Â
She carried a tatty, over-filled straw bag and said she could never find a decent handbag. Dumas invited her to his workshop and the prototype was conceived.
Jenson, 43 – who was previously married to model Jessica Michibata – and wife Brittny said ‘I do’ last year at star-studded ceremony in California.
The couple were forced to postpone their wedding for the second time due to the COVID-19 pandemic, having pushed it back once after unexpectedly falling pregnant with their first child Hendrix.
The couple had first been due to tie the knot on July 6, 2019, but Brittny fell pregnant.
Their son, Hendrix, arrived in July 2019 via a planned C-section, and Brittny announced the news with a sweet social media post.
Sharing a cute photograph of their baby boy’s feet, Brittny penned: ‘He’s here, he’s healthy and our hearts couldn’t be more full’.
