Traveler says one of her fellow plane passengers was forced to weigh themselves on a BAGGAGE SCALE

A traveler has revealed that one of her fellow plane passengers was forced to weigh themselves on a baggage scale in front of ‘the whole airport’ before getting on the aircraft.

The woman, named Lillian, explained that everyone had to share their weight with airline crew for ‘safety reasons’ – but when the workers suspected that one person was not being truthful about the number, they had her stand on a scale.

Lillian shared a photo of the woman, who was not identified, being weighed to TikTok earlier this year, and it sparked a fierce reaction from viewers who were left divided over the situation.

Some slammed the airline for ’embarrassing’ the woman and others bashed her for ‘lying’ about her weight and ‘risking’ the other passengers’ ‘lives.’

‘The whole airport trying to mind their own business as a woman is asked to step on the baggage scale because she claimed she was 130lbs,’ Lillian wrote in the video, alongside the snap of the woman and a meme of actor Pedro Pascal eating a sandwich.

She added in the caption, ‘It’s a tiny plane so they needed our weight to take off for safety reasons.’

People quickly took to the comment section to share their thoughts.

‘That’s not OK,’ one person wrote, while another asked, ‘Why are people so mean?’

A different person revealed that they were once put into a similar situation, and they said they had ‘never been so embarrassed in their life.’

‘This embarrassment to the customer could’ve been avoided,’ a different commenter pointed out.

‘I’d cry,’ admitted someone else.

Others defended the airline, with another user quipping, ‘Nah because why would she lie and risk all our lives including hers?’

‘Weight and balance is really important on small aircraft,’ someone else said, while another agreed, ‘It’s not personal… It’s life or death.’

Many airlines around the world have required weight checks for passengers who are traveling on smaller planes – to ensure that the aircraft is balanced and doesn’t go over the safe limit.

Uzbekistan Airways, which flies between Asia and Europe mostly, announced in 2015 that it would start weighing people to ‘ensure flight safety.’

The airline said in a statement at the time, per CNN: ‘The full confidentiality of results is guaranteed.’

A man who traveled on Mokulele Airlines between Hawaiian Islands earlier this year revealed that he was asked at check-in about his weight.

‘I was flying in a Cessna 208 small plane. A Cessna 208 has an empty weight of 4,730 pounds and a maximum takeoff weight of 8,000 pounds,’ he wrote in a blog post about his experience.

‘So Mokulele wants to make sure that the total weight of pilots, crew, passengers and baggage is not above the maximum takeoff weight.

‘Besides the total weight, airlines flying light weight planes like a Cessna 208 also have to account for balance between the front and back and left and right of an airplane.

‘For that reason, on my Mokulele Airlines flight at least, you don’t actually get a boarding pass or seat assignment when you check in.

‘Once everybody has checked in, the gate agent brings everyone to the gate and tells everyone where they need to sit.

‘This is done to ensure everything is in accordance with the weight and balance needs of the aircraft.’
