Tina Turner’s son Ike Jr. was arrested for crack possession weeks before her death

Ike Turner Jr., the son of the late Tina and Ike Turner, was arrested last month in Texas on multiple drug charges, less than three weeks before his famed mother’s death at 83.

Ike Jr., 64, was taken into custody May 6 in Alvin, Texas, in connection with crack cocaine possession and tampering with evidence, police told People Wednesday.

‘He tried to eat the drugs before the officers could seize them from him,’ Capt. Q.T. Arendell of the Alvin Police Department told the outlet.

Ike Jr. has not posted the $70,000 bail following his arrest, police told the outlet, and remains in custody at the Brazoria County Detention Center in Angleton, Texas.

A passenger in the vehicle with Ike Jr., Jessica Salinas-Esquivel, was also charged in the incident with meth possession, police said, according to the outlet.

His mother Tina died at her Switzerland home May 24 at 83 after battling multiple ailments. Ike Jr. was adopted by Tina Turner after Ike Turner welcomed him with ex-wife Lorraine Taylor.

According to authorities, in the May 6 incident, Ike Jr. was initially pulled over at 12:09 a.m. in a white 2013 Ford Fusion over an equipment violation, meaning a broken headlight or taillight.

Upon searching the car, police saw Ike Jr. trying to eat the drugs that were present – 1.7 grams of crack cocaine and .7 grams of methamphetamine.

Ike Jr. also had an unrelated outstanding arrest warrant ahead of the incident, police said.

Like his parents, he has also had a career in music, as a member of the tribute band The Love Thang Band, alongside vocalist Sweet Randi Love.

He also earned a Grammy working with his late father Ike Turner on the 2006 album Risin’ With The Blues, which prevailed in the category for Best Traditional Blues Album.

Ike Jr. has also been involved with his mother’s musical endeavors, but said his late father – notorious for his well-chronicled past involving domestic violence toward Tina – assaulted him over the gig.

‘When my mother and father separated, he did not want me working with her – and he beat me in the head with a nickel-plated .45 pistol,’ Ike Jr. told DailyMail.com in an August 2018 interview.

In the revealing 2018 chat, Ike Jr. said that he hadn’t spoken with Tina for nearly two decades.

‘Tina raised me from the age of two,’ he said. ‘She’s the only mother I’ve ever known. But I haven’t talked to my mother since God knows when – probably around 2000.’

He continued: ‘My mother is living her life – she has a new husband and she’s in Europe. She doesn’t want to have anything to do with the past.’

Ike Jr. defended his father’s reputation on the topic of domestic violence, chronicled in interviews both Tina and Ike had given, and in the 1993 Tina biopic What’s Love Got to Do with It.

‘My mother and father had no more fights than the people next door to you,’ he said in the 2018 interview. ‘I think their problem was her mouth and his mouth – my father didn’t take s*** from nobody.’

Ike Turner fatally overdosed on cocaine in December 2007 at the age of 76.

The musician had been dogged for decades by drug addiction, including an 18-month prison sentence for cocaine possession in 1989.
